  • Math-By-Mail Middle School & High School Prep

Math practice accompanied by enrichment activities for the upcoming summer months, created by current middle school math teachers with 50+ years of combined experience! Math-by-Mail is expanding its options to do math! Not only are we offering our predetermined set of 8 packets, we will also offer an ala carte menu! Our added approach allows for individual choice regarding the skills and concepts students and parents can request to build math confidence. Still an 8 week course with a self paced approach! Student completed packets should be mailed (USPS) to Math-by-Mail. We will then provide feedback and return corrected packets to students via USPS. As always the goal of Math-by-Mail is to provide rich content to maintain mathematical understanding! Math-by-Mail is a summer opportunity to keep young minds active with this locally developed curriculum. Minnesota State Standards, Math Frameworks MCA strands, and current Minnesota Benchmarks are the foundational basis for this curriculum. With creative problem solving, multiple choice, short answer and vocabulary embedded into an 8-week course of independent study, students will maintain or increase the level of their math understanding, in addition to reviewing the recommended targets suggested by grade level in the Minnesota School Academic Standards for mathematics. Each student will be given a pretest to assess the appropriate skill level necessary to strengthen their individual math needs, unlike other programs that are exclusively grade level driven. Students will receive an 8-lesson packet to complete at their own pace throughout the summer. As students finish packets, they are mailed back for feedback and then returned to the students. **All packets are due back by August 9 in order to provide timely feedback before the 2024 school year begins. Please reach out at any time if you have questions. Registration closes June 28, 2024.
  • Middle School 3D Printing: Build Your Own Robot

3D printing is here to stay! This class is for students who have no or limited experience with 3D printing and is ideal for students who like to draw, design, and see their creations come to life. Students will be learning the ropes of 3D modeling and printing using Tinkercad to design parts for their robots. By the end of the week they will have 2 Dc-powered robots - a sketchbot and a drive bot. Students must be comfortable with using a laptop and mouse to design their creations.
  • Middle School 3D Printing: Gizmos & Gadgets

3D printing is here to stay and learning how it works is as basic as learning how to use a computer! This class is for students who have no or limited experience with 3D printing and is ideal for students who like to draw, design, and see there creations come to life. Students will learn the ropes of 3D modeling and printing. Students will use the Engineering Design Process to create their own designs from scratch and choose 2 to print in class to take home. To allow everyone to print their creations, items may be scaled down to allow printing during class times. Students must be comfortable using a laptop and mouse to design their creations.
  • Middle School 3D Printing: Jewelry & Wearables

3D printing introduces students to a new world of possibilities! This class is for students who have no or limited experience with 3D printing and is ideal for students who like to draw, design, and see their creations come to life. Students will learn the ropes of 3D modeling and printing using Tinkercad to design their jewelry or wearables creation from scratch, 2 of which they get to print and take home. To allow everyone to print their creations, items may have to be scaled down to allow printing during class times. Students must be comfortable with using a laptop and mouse to design their creations.
  • Middle School Drone Maker Engineering Camp

The Drone Maker Engineering Camp is an engaging, hands-on experience that combines theory with practical application. Designed for beginner, students will work in teams of 3 and use special classroom drones to learn about drones, the principles of flight, and their real world applications. Each day, students will engineer their drones to complete a new mission like package delivery, fire fighting, and medical missions. This camp is structured to encourage creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
  • Middle School Engineering: Animatronics & Pneumatics

Join us as we explore, investigate, and solve problems. This exciting, hands-on engineering class combines LEGO® Education and LEGO® Technic™ materials to study design, technology, science, and mathematics. Students will build learning models and then be challenged to customize and improve their projects with what they have learned. We will investigate design principles, mechanisms, pneumatics, pressure, prototyping, energy, and many more. Possible projects include the scissor lift, stamping press, robotic arm, robotic hand, animatronic scarecrow, and dinosaur.
  • Middle School Escape to Hogwarts

The Ministry of Magic is inviting all aspiring wizards to this extraordinary camp. Each day, students participate in engineering challenges to earn points for their houses like creating the farthest-reaching Golden Snitch Launcher and the fastest Gringott Cart to reach the vaults. At the end of the week, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honour!
  • Middle School Extreme Robotics: Battlebots

This camp will energize and excite students by combining the LEGO® building system's versatility and the Mindstorms EV3 (the most sophisticated microcomputer brick ever made by LEGO®). Working each day in teams, students will construct fun LEGO® models, experiment with programs, and compete in robotic challenges. Robot building, block programming, and teamwork will be part of each day's activities. The final challenges will be centered around hitting targets and a sumo battle. Students will be working in small teams of 2-3.
  • Middle School Lightning Thief Engineering Camp

The demigods have come together to train at Camp Half-Blood. Inspired by the 1st Percy Jackson book, "The Lightning Thief", students use the Engineering Design Process to recreate objects and transform themselves into modern-day heroes. With new and exciting activities each day, students learn to solve problems, work as a team, and unleash the hero within. Explore different engineering fields and make a light-up bolt, cast in stone, flying shoes, and more!
