  • Infant and Child CPR for Parents and Caregivers

    This non-certification course will cover infant and pediatric CPR for parents and caregivers, following the Heartsaver® curriculum from the American Heart Association. You will learn how to respond to an infant or child who is choking, how to perform CPR, and steps to follow during an emergency. This class is designed for parents and other caregivers and is sponsored by Wayzata Community Ed.
  • Intro to Stand Up Paddleboarding

    On and off the water, Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) training that will have you comfortably paddling in no time! Learn the basics of SUP, including equipment overview, paddle, launch techniques, and general safety instruction. 45 minutes of instruction followed by 45 minute rental. Due to safety concerns, classes and rentals at Wayzata Beach are for individuals age 12+ only (age 12-15 must be accompanied on the water by a registered parent or adult guardian). Sorry, no riders. Renters under age 18 must have a parent or legal guardian’s signature on the required waiver form.

    Have you filled all the open areas of your home with beautiful house plants and need to start moving up?! Create a beautiful Chroma Plant Hanger! The chroma plant hanger is a beautiful simple plant hanger. The natural cord used for the majority of the hanger is a quality cord with great texture. This hanger is great because you can customize it by adding one or two colors to the top and bottom knots. The colored cord comes in a wide variety of colors. A natural wooden ring is used to secure the hanger and can fit a wide variety of pot sizes. NOTE LOCATION: Orono Discovery Center, 5050 Independence St., Maple Plain, MN 55359, Room 201.     A hiking workout with tips on how to increase fitness, cardio, and arm and leg strength with Nordic Walking. Improve your cardio and flexibility as well as increase strength in your legs and upper body while having fun outside. Join Jan Guenther, owner of Gear West in Long Lake, MN in her Nordic Walking classes. Simple and fun yet challenging. Use poles and a little creativity to improve mental health and fitness. Nordic walking poles will be available for participants to use. Wear flexible walking/running shoes. Class will run in rain/drizzle. If a class is canceled a make up session will be scheduled.

    Join us at Wayzata Beach as we learn to take memorable pictures of our families and make beautiful portraits using nature as a backdrop. Professional photographer, David Sherman, will demystify the rules of exposure (aperture, shutter speed, ISO) and how to take control of your camera – be it a DSLR, point and shoot or cellphone. Learn how to stop taking and begin making pictures.

    Whether you’re just starting to learn Pickleball or want to go to the next level, this class is for you. Expect to learn the game and have tons of fun doing so. Instructor Tim Laurent takes a very hands-on approach to instruct this fantastic sport. Equipment provided. This class will take place at Wayzata West Middle School on the tennis courts that are lined for Pickleball. Rain date: If a class is canceled due to rain we will hold a makeup class on July 29.

    Pilates exercises on a NEW level. Various small equipment items are used to bring intensity and variety to your Pilates workout. The focus is on facial movement, standing functional training, balance and strength. Challenging for all levels. Bring to class: Hand towel, mat, large ball (If you do not have a large ball, wait to purchase until after the first class). This class will be in-person and be streamed live over Zoom. You choose how you'd like to attend!

    This class is geared towards the beginner that is new to Reformer Pilates.     An online full body strength workout. You can use just bodyweight or add hand weights for more results. Movements and music will vary to make it an enjoyable fitness experience. Choice of meat (chicken or pork) & veggies will fill the CRISPY spring rolls, and fresh veggie and precooked protein of choice will fill the FRESH spring rolls. Two types of wrappers will be used. Participants will be able to customize filling ingredients and seasonings according to their taste or dietary preferences. Join in the fun as we dive into the world of spring rolls learning the techniques to create fillings, and how to wrap, roll, and cook these delightful packets of bright deliciousness! Freezing and reheating tips will also be shared! Come join the FUN! Make it a date night or family night as you create lasting memories in your kitchen! Have your questions answered by the instructor, interact with other participants as you cook along, and increase your confidence in the kitchen. While cooking-along is loads of fun, and highly recommended, it is optional. Participants will receive a list of ingredients in advance of the class with enough time for shopping and preparation. A professionally made PDF packet of the Instructors Personal Recipes from this class will also be received. This class will take place on Zoom; free online software. Participants will receive instructions on how to access the class prior to it starting. As an added bonus, the instructor has created a private group and a public group on Facebook for participants of her cooking classes.     Come explore the world of sushi as you create this Japanese delicacy yourself. We'll begin by preparing the coveted sushi rice then you'll learn the art of "nigiri-sushi"(hand molded rice) topped with shrimp, unagi, tamago, ahi tuna, and more. You'll then learn how to prepare "maki-sushi" using a bamboo mat to roll rice with various fillings in and around Nori (seaweed sheets). Options and accompaniments will include surimi, cucumber, avocado, cream cheese, teriyaki chicken, tempura onions, spicy mayo, eel sauce, wasabi, pickled ginger and soy sauce.
