  • Walk and Talk Wayzata History

Wayzata has been the gateway to Lake Minnetonka since 1867, when the Saint Paul & Pacific Railroad first reached the town. For many years, boats met passengers at the foot of Broadway Avenue and brought them to various destinations around the lake. Who used the boats and where were they going? What kinds of businesses greeted them in Wayzata? Come walk on a guided tour of what was once six, short blocks called Lake Street in the late 1800s. See where trains, boats, and horse-drawn wagons converged to propel commerce in a village with 132 residents. Learn about the people who were part of it. Hosted by members of the Lake Minnetonka Historical Society, the tour will start and end at the Wayzata Depot (402 East Lake Street). Eight sites will be highlighted for their prominence in Wayzata history. Wear good walking shoes! Please arrive in Wayzata 15 minutes earlier than the start time to find parking. The closest lot is on Lake Street, a half block west of the Depot on the north side of the street marked 'Parking'. Upon registration, your contact information will be shared with the Lake Minnetonka Historical Society for the sole purpose of receiving a reminder communication a few days before your walk.
