Parenting with Less Conflict: The power of asking rather than telling

Classes - Adult / Special Interest -
Adult Classes Winter/Spring 2026

Do you have conflicts around devices, daily routines and simple requests? Have you tried rewards, punishments, timeouts, cajoling and sticker charts to try and change your child's behavior? How often have you felt like you are working harder at this than your child? Then join us for this 2 week course that will help you learn new ways of phrasing things that allow you to become the parent you want to be. Learn from leading experts on how to coach your child through difficult situations and recurring behavioral issues. This small group course has new information each week combined with the opportunity to ask individual questions. You will develop the tools that provide lasting behavioral change that do not rely on increasing reminders and supervision. Class will be limited to 35 participants.

This program is made possible through funding by the Partners for Healthy Kids grant and the Wayzata Public Schools District Liaison Committee.

Full scholarships are available through Community Ed by completing our online form

Spots are limited. Please only register if you can commit to attending both sessions.

Dan Baier

Dan Baier has dedicated 24 years to teaching in Edina Public Schools, where he developed a deep commitment to helping students thrive both academically and personally. In 2006, he became a certified trainer in Restitution Self-Discipline with Diane Gossen, and in 2009, he took on the role of Director of Service Learning at Impact Lives, leading students on transformative trips to Haitian refugee camps, where they learned how to turn their talents into strengths.
Dan’s passion for teaching extends beyond the classroom. He’s had the privilege of training parents and educators around the world—in Canada, Iceland, the Dominican Republic, Cambodia, and Malaysia—helping them develop tools to create supportive, self-disciplined environments. As the founder of Interdependent Learning, Dan is deeply committed to equipping students with the skills they need to be self-disciplined, meet their own needs in healthy ways, and contribute to the well-being of their communities.
Currently, Dan is modeling these practices for teachers in their classrooms with students in Wayzata, Minnetonka, and Edina, focusing on strategies that foster student agency and help students meet their needs in ways that promote both individual and collective success.
