  • Wayzata Ultimate Frisbee - The Wabbits

Wayzata Ultimate - commonly referred to as "The Wabbits" - is a high school level ultimate frisbee team competing in the North Suburban conference and 2018's Conference Champions. We have one open (co-ed eligible) team with opportunities to expand based on turnout. The team practices for two hours on Mondays and Wednesdays at either 5:30 or 6:30pm at the Wayzata High school turf field. Games are on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. both at home and across the metro as a part of the Minnesota Spring High School Ultimate League. The Minnesota Spring High School League season is approximately 8 weeks long, starting in early April and concluding the first weekend in June. Both the Open and Girls divisions have multiple tiers of competitive play at the state tournament, each crowning its own champion. At the beginning of the season, each team has a chance to play into the top tier of competition regardless of the previous year's results. About Ultimate Frisbee: "What is ultimate?" as defined by the USA Ultimate Board of Directors? The USA Ultimate Board of Directors believes that one key factor that defines ultimate is that the players need to be the ones in control. The definition of ultimate developed by the board at the 2001 strategic planning meeting is as follows: "Player defined and controlled non-contact team sport played with a flying disc on a playing surface with end zones in which all actions are governed by the 'Spirit of the Game." Time commitment: The season is short (just two months long) but a lot is packed into that time. Please make every effort to attend as many practices and tournaments as possible. If you know you will be missing practices, games or tournaments, please email at least a week ahead of time so we can cancel or adjust plans if more than just a few players are missing. This is especially important if we have an A & B team. Note that practice times and location are subject to change. Season runs mid- March through the beginning of June. Equipment Requirements: Each player must own a pair of cleats. Soccer style cleats are most common, but football receiver cleats or lacrosse cleats also work. Players will need a pair of jerseys for league games and tournaments. These are matching high quality, wicking jerseys. The jerseys will be ordered within the first couple weeks of the season. NEXT STEP: Register with MN Ultimate and pay the membership fee. Players need to register to Wayzata Ultimate. All players must register for the league/team, and sign waiver on MinnesotaUltimate.org, follow the instructions here: https://minnesotaultimate.org/tutorials-and-help and register: https://minnesotaultimate.org/e/2024-high-school-spring-league Coaches will be sending out a Medical Authorization form. All players must complete a Medical Authorization form and bring it to the coaches by the first practice.
